RG Steel is idling operations in Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia, the struggling steelmaker announced Thursday as it warned employees of "a lot" of layoffs. Maryland officials said nearly 2,000 will be laid off in that state.

Potential buyers eye mill owned by RG Steel The struggling sparrows Point steel mill could be sold within the next six months, mill owner RG Steel said Monday. RG Steel spokeswoman Bette Kovach confirmed comments by two company executives that potential buyers were eyeing the Baltimore County plant, as well as others owned by the firm.
