Bud Wright: Some sobering thoughts, stats about drunk driving
26 May 2012, 12:14 pm
I ran into an old friend a few weeks ago in the parking lot of the Cheatem & Streetem convenience store. We go back a long way (almost 60 years, actually) so we did some catching up. My side of the conversation was a trifle dull.

New images for On The Road
21 May 2012, 3:51 am
On The Road has released a new batch of images ahead of its grand unveiling at Cannes this week, featuring the cast in a host of wistful, sun-burnished poses. Naturally, we have a new look at the trio of leads, Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart, while there's also room for supporting players Kirsten Dunst and Terrence Howard among the latest images. The film is an adaptation of Jack ...
'A grand honor' to receive tribute from former Gov. Merrill
20 May 2012, 11:06 pm
A bit ago I received a very welcome letter from the Hon. Stephen Merrill, former Governor of New Hampshire. I chuckled at its beginning and, of course, greatly appreciated its contents. The hand-written letter read in part 8220Stacey, I can't have a reprobate like John Harrigan saying nicer things about you than I do, so here goes...
England v West Indies – as it happened | Rob Smyth and John Ashdown
18 May 2012, 5:03 pm
Andrew Strauss scored his first Test century for 18 months to leave England in complete control of the first Test at Lord's Preamble Morning. The first day of the Test series was pretty much as scripted: Shivnarine Chanderpaul versus England's seamers, with West Indies closing on 243 for nine. The book says that England will now follow the template they established in the 2010-11 Ashes, by ...
PG Wodehouse's Mike would open the batting for my XI | Frank Keating
8 May 2012, 6:07 pm
JL Carr, Shehan Karunatilaka and Joseph O'Neill have written cricket fiction well but PG Wodehouse is its finest servant The wretched weather has at least given cricketers of all levels plenty of time for reading. I fancy many still sheltering in the pavilion might be enthusing over the eloquently unputdownable new novel Chinaman by Shehan Karunatilaka , a floridly epic tale about, among other ...

Cogan's id is James Gandolfini as a hard-drinking, hard-living reprobate. Richard Jenkins, the mob go-between who hires Cogan to sort out the aftermath of the robbery, is the superego. "Scoot is basically trying to get his id and his superego to agree with ...
Snuffy Smith's secret vice: He's a closet reggae fan - Examiner
14 May 2012, 1:18 pm
We thought Snuffy would be partial to bluegrass tunes or old-timey yodeling. After all, this reprobate has a taste for moonshine, not ganja. As it turns out in Monday's comic, however, Snuffy can't keep his feet from swaying along to the bouncy riddims of ...
