Given the way members of Congress are
patting themselves on the back, it must have been really tough to reach the tentative deal on extending the Social Security payroll tax cut for 10 months. Republicans had wanted to offset the roughly $100 billion cost with spending cuts, but Democrats were demanding tax increases on the rich. Oh, my, what a terrible impasse. What to do?
