Singer-songwriter and guitarist Mikhail Novitsky is a frequent sight at rallies and at the opposition camp on St. Isaac’s Square. Apart from music, he is an active member of his preservationist group Green Wave, which he set up to protect St. Petersburg parks and lakes.

I’ve wanted to get back to Balakirev ever since I mentioned him in regards to Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet . Here is my chance. If you’ll recall, at the San Diego Symphony concert a few weeks back, Nuvi Mehta came out before the performance of Romeo and Juliet and gave us a rundown on how Balakirev held Tchaikovsky’s hand in the compositional process.

Tuesday’s concert by the acclaimed Trio Solisti offered one of the more unusual programs on the Buffalo Chamber Music Society series. It opened with the Dvorak Trio No. 3 in F minor, which turned out to be the only conventional chamber work of the evening.
