Garden advice: How will this year's warm weather affect pruning?

Q: Because of the warm weather, everything is three to four weeks ahead this year. Here it is not even Mother's Day (the traditional date for last frost) and already my azaleas are pretty much finished. My question is: With everything so far advanced, how does affect the pruning schedule?

Question: My laurel hedge is eight feet high and three feet wide and 80 feet length, the problem is it is sick. It is old and is being attacked by some horrible pest. Can you advise me on a treatment for this (leaves enclosed) as I would hate to have to remove it. (Mrs V Thornington, Oulton Broad)

This year has started out as a frantic landscape season with the downy mildews killing our impatiens and defoliating the awabuki mirror-leaf viburnum hedges. We also see staining under the canopies of the bucida ("black olive") trees.
