Home sales jump in nearly every price range

Though some are still struggling to sell their homes, the overall real estate market was up last month compared to a year earlier. Single-family home sales jumped 9.6 percent in April, the Houston Association of Realtors reported Tuesday.

James J. Ralabate of East Amherst, a patent attorney who formerly was director of patents for Xerox Corp., died Wednesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a short illness. He was 84.
