CHARLESTON, Ill. • Cahokia half-miler Darren Payton set a state record Friday morning in the preliminaries of the 800 meters, and the Comanches qualified a Class 2A-best 12 entries for Saturday's finals at the boys state track meet at O'Brien Stadium at Eastern Illinois University.
