BOE OKs Georgiana renovations

The Butler County Board of Education will renovate two buildings on the old campus of Georgiana High School to be used by Georgiana’s football team. The BOE proposed at its monthly meeting Thursday to turn Georgiana’s old band room into a field house for the school’s football team.

Heartland Park Topeka owner Raymond Irwin is extremely proud of the facility he and his staff have put together since he took over in 2003, joining the city and state of Kansas in pouring millions of dollars into improvements.
Superintendent not in favor of longer summers

Legislators recently passed a measure that would impact the length of summer break for local schools. On May 1, the Senate passed HB 360, a bill that would create a public school start date law that would make summer vacations longer.
NHRA stars to appear at SPEEDFEST

Heartland Park Topeka has received confirmation from NHRA drag racing stars Robert Hight, Spencer Massey, Morgan Lucas and Allen Johnson that they will make appearances at the inaugural SPEEDFEST on May 17, in downtown Topeka.

BOE joins opposition of charter schools

The Butler County Board of Education passed a resolution at its April meeting opposing charter schools in Alabama. Butler County Schools Superintendent Darren
douthitt said the resolution was passed in effort to join other districts in Alabama.
